M.A.P. non profit art foundation
This was a small fantasy drawing made to celebrate the Scottish Ladies that invented the fine art of Fly Fishing. I have no idea what they really looked like or what the first rods and reels were. My models got rained out that day so I am giving tribute to the artist J. W. Waterhouse by transforming several elements of his paintings and adding an Ozarks twist.
Here are some old drawings and prints from the early through the mid 1970's in Eureka Springs . . .
The first few were made in my portrait studio, known as "The Paint Factory" in 1973.
The following year I moved across the street to 28 Spring Street and opened "The Chambered Nautilus - Studio and Gallery", where I worked till the end of 1976.
By the end of 1976...I closed my gallery on Spring Street and moved my studio in with Spring Gallery on 120 North Main Street.
In March of 1977 my family and I moved to Fayetteville Arkansas and opened up a private studio in our home.
In 1975 while I was sitting in my studio working on this drawing, an old man came up to me and said, "I bet I can tell you everyone's name in that picture". He said he was the young man, top center. He was only 15 years old at the time in 1903. He was the same age as my grandfather. He said he was from California and had returned for one last visit to see Eureka and visit his birth place between Eureka and Berryville. I was so impressed with his story, I sent him to the local historical museum to have his story recorded.
"War Eagle Mill" - Originally constructed in 1835 -
"War Eagle Mill was destroyed and rebuilt three times, with the last rebuilding in 1973.
James Yale captures with pen and ink the peaceful spirit, symbolized by the mythical Indian, of this nearly forgotten stone-ground merchant."
"Sam & Helen Walton" Pen and Ink Illustration for - Sam & Helen Walton Appreciation Day October 8, 1983
These next eight drawings were commissioned by Helen Walton in 1980 and 1981.
Each Original Ink Drawing is 17 3/ 8" x 12 3/ 8"
They were turned into a calendar for the Bank of Bentonville. These eight illustrations were also produced as small unlimited prints.
Four of the drawings were used to illustrate the front and back cover of "Bentonville and its Bank - Growing Together for 50 Years". A historical book by J. Dickson Black
These eight drawings of historical Bentonville and Bella Vista are currently being turned into small unlimited prints that will be printed on 8 1/2" x 11" paper and suitable for framing.
I will individually hand sign each print and card. They will be available for sale. The Note Cards will include envelops and be packaged in clear plastic sleeves.

"Circa 1880" Original Oil on Canvas of Historic Bentonville house Commissioned for Judge Enfield
"Rogers Arkansas" - Est. 1881 -
In 1880 when the St. Louis & San Francisco Railroads began surveying for a line from Pierce City, Missouri to Ft. Smith, Arkansas, it followed the Old Wire Road which ran through the present site of Rogers. One of the rest places on the route was Callahan Springs, in the northeast corner of Rogers and Cross Hollows, to the south, famous for its whiskey distillery. On May 10,1881 the first passenger train arrived, a day recognized as the town's anniversary. Rogers was named in honor of Captain C. W. Rogers, vice president and general manager of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad. Rogers was incorporated in June 1881, with the Rev. J. Wade Sikes as the first mayor and his brother, B.F. Sikes, as the first postmaster. By the close of the year Rogers' population was estimated at 600 and growing!
This original Ink drawing was used by the museum to print T-Shirts, for sale in their gift shop to help support the Rogers Historical Museum.
"Pat Clayton Home" Water Color of Home in Rogers Commissioned by her Daughter
"YALE ART STUDIO" - 1985 - Logo
In June of 1985, I moved my home and studio to its present location on Beaver Lake, just a few miles north of Rogers, Arkansas.
This was a fun project !
After years of being commissioned to do album covers for several different musicians and recording artists... the times were changing and so was technology.
John Corbin, a musician, singer and song writer, came to my studio and asked me to illustrate his next album. It was a lot of fun. I created over half a dozen pen and ink drawings for him as well as incorporating several different existing original drawings in the studio. This was my first design for a CD and cassette tape. I designed and illustrated the artwork on the CD. John is truly a wonderfully talented singer and song writer.
"Minstrel's Tales" CD front cover and 12 page brochure
"IMAGINE"
Originally commissioned for John Lennon, before his death in December 1980. The work was finished the next year and a letter and a copy of the drawing were sent to Yoko Ono...There was never a reply.
I reproduced it on T-Shirts to give to my friends as a tribute to John Lennon. Years later, John Corbin wanted to use it on his album project. I kept the framed original in my home until another client purchased it in 2001.
Tom Maringer is a Knife and Sword Artist that resides in Springdale Arkansas. He is extremely talented in many fields. Its an honor to know him. I have several of his special knives in my own collection.
"LOVE IS A TWO EDGED SWORD"
This Original 15" x 20" Ink Drawing was commissioned by Scott Shoemaker, to incorporate the angel holding the sword and the banner entwining it to be in the shape of an "S" for Shoemaker.
I later made a copy of it and added to the design and added the words "LOVE IS A TWO EDGE SWORD". He planned on turning it into posters and have it printed on T-Shirts and Note Cards.
Scott Shoemaker is a Knife and Sword Artist and member of The Knifemakers' Guild.
Scott made me a very special dagger and white display case in trade for one of the original ink drawings. It is one of my prized possessions and it is displayed in my new studio.

THE FLING MERMAID OF EXOCOETIDAE SHE SPRANG FROM THE SEA FLYING OVER HEAD, TURNED, ONE FLEETING GLIMPSE TO MY EYES, AND SHE WAS GONE. I WONDER WHAT SHE THOUGHT AS SHE LOOKED INTO MY EYES. MY CONCEPTS OF REALITY CHANGED FOREVER WITH-IN A BLINK OF AN EYE.

IN A DREAM ...SOMEWHERE ... LONG BEFORE I WAS BORN...I SAILED A DISTANT SHIP ACROSS THE UNCHARTED OCEANS. THE MARINER'S TALES OF MERMAIDS HAUNTED ME WITH THEIR SIREN SONGS AS THEY LURED MEN INTO THE DEEP...BUT IN MY SLEEP AN ANGELIC VISION DID APPEAR ~ A MERMAID NOT BOUND BY SEA OR EARTH. THIS MYSTICAL BEAUTY OF EXOCOETIDAE SPRINGS FROM THE SEA...WITH PECTORAL FINS EXTENDED AND METAMOPHODIZED TO OUTSTRETCHING ARMS WITH DELICATE WEBBED HANDS. SHE IS CARRIED ALOFT, GLIDING ABOVE WATER IN THE MOON LIGHT BY WINGS ON EITHER SIDE OF HER DORSAL FIN. HER SKIN SHIMMERS A LIGHT OPALESCENT BRONZE IN TRANSITION TO SILVERY SCALES DOWN TO HER CAUDAL TAIL FIN. HER HEAD AND TRUNK REGIONS ARE OF A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMAN. HER FACE, THAT OF AN ANGEL WITH EYES THAT SEARCH YOUR VERY SOUL. LIPS THAT ENTICE YOU AND TAKE AWAY YOUR BREATH. HER NOSE, SMALL AND WELL FORMED, BREATHING IN THE SALT AIR. BEHIND THE LINE OF HER JAW NEXT TO HER EARS, SLIGHTLY CONCEALED BY THE WET GLISTENING REDDISH HAIR THAT FRAMES HER FACE ARE AQUATIC GILLS. SHE CAN EXIST IN THE OCEAN DEEP... OR... FLY HIGH ABOVE OUR MAST AND SAILS. IF I COULD, BUT CAPTURE HER ONLY FOR A MOMENT, AND SHARE THOSE FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS. SHE STIRRED DEEP WITHIN MY SOUL.. I WOULD RELEASE HER INTO THE MIDNIGHT SKY AND HOPE SHE WILL TAKE ME WITH HER... TO SHARE HER DREAMS AND UNIVERSE OF HEAVEN AND SEA. ALL I HAVE LEFT IS A FLEETING MEMORY OF A LONG PAST DREAM. WITH QUILL IN HAND ALAS NO COLOURS TO ILLUMINATE THE AURA OF HER PRESENCE. I STILL HAVE TO GO TO SEA... NOW AS AN OLD MAN. I HOPE TO HAVE ONE LAST GLIMPSE OF THIS LOVELY VISION BEFORE I CLOSE MY FADING EYES AND LEAVE THIS MORTAL REALM.

This is the same drawing with bat fur added to the composition. This looks more natural and I like it.
This drawing, "My Pig can Fly" was made when Bill Clinton was President. A friend called and told me he had heard on the news that President Clinton used this phrase when talking with some foreign dignitary over something he did not agree with.
So I sat down and drew this for him. It was printed on T-Shirts and several were sent to the White House. I never did hear back from Bill, so the original still hangs proudly in our kitchen.
In the mid 1990's I was quite busy . I was attending a "Writers Group" in Rogers, and the "Society for the Study of Human and Aerial Phenomena ( S.S.H.A.P.) in Springdale, as well as the local "Multiple Sclerosis Support Group" in Springdale. I was also helping the MS group with their annual fishing tournament.
With the challenges of dealing with my own MS. I haven't been able to work the fine detail with pen and ink that I use to do. So now I spend more time writing and painting and hopefully start working on a new series of sculptures.
Stay tuned...to see what's next ________________________
