This is a life sized "Terra Cotta" (clay) Sculpture. It was made from a "Live Mask" that was directly applied over the models body and face. Once it was dry enough to remove it from the subject it is reinforced with heavy plaster and then turned into a multi-pieced interlocking mold. The mold is then reassembled and secured together. Terra cotta clay is pressed into the interior surface of the mold and worked smooth to about one half inch thickness. Once the clay has dried enough to remove it from the mold, Yale details the hair and eyes and facial expression to satisfy the clients needs. Clothes are also fashioned onto the clay to suit. The sculpture is air dried and then fired in a kiln. A simple wax patina is applied and a base is made to compliment and finish the piece. |
